Aquarela do Brasil (Watercolor of Brazil), known in the English-speaking world simply as Brazil, is one of the most famous Brazilian songs of all time. Written by Ary Barroso in 1939, it originally gained popularity in North America when a version performed by Aloysio De Oliveira was featured the 1942 Disney animated film, Saludos Amigos.
In 1985, Terry Gilliam used Geoff Muldaur’s interpretation of the song as the theme to his dystopian masterpiece, Brazil.
